Message from the Director General
One month to go in a year of great financial challenge for many airports around the world. The good news is that, heading into 2010, the “green shoots” have started to appear and most airports will have experienced some level of increase in traffic over 2009. We forecast a worldwide 2% increase for next year compared to this year.
The apparent easing of the financial crisis and the improvement in air service demand is not likely to stop airline attempts to exert control over airport charges. The World Economics Standing Committee has revised the ACI Policy Handbook on Airport Economics to reflect principles agreed in ICAO’s Conference on the Economics of Airports and Air Navigation Services (CEANS) and to identify the requisites of airport business in the modern age. Currently, ICAO is updating Document 9082 which provides implementing guidance to States. ACI staff and Members are participating in the Airport Economics Panel to ensure that the guidance reflects the ICAO principles and ACI policy.
ACI will continue to advance the interests of airports through the activities in the World and Regional offices building with the strong participation of ACI Members.
Best wishes to all for a Happy New Year!
Angela Gittens, Director General, ACI World
