DHMİ has signed the Airport Operation contract with TAV A.Ş. at a ceremony participated by the Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication Binali Yıldırım. Minister Yıldırım, "İzmir has waited for a long time for such a service, we better complete the terminal in 20 months. İzmir's airport will be bigger than that of Ankara with this contract."

LEASING contract of İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport's existing International Lines Terminal, for which a Transfer of Operation Right (TOR) tender was made on November 17, 2011 by State Airports Administration (DHMİ) General Directorate, has been signed at a ceremony participated by the Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication Binali Yıldırım with TAV A.Ş. on December 11, 2011.

According to the leasing contract signed by tender winning TAV Havalimanları A.Ş. with DHMİ General Directorate for İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport's existing International Lines Terminal, TAV Group will make Euro 250 million investment for İzmir Airport'nın International Lines Terminal, the construction will last 20 months and operation period will be 20 years. TOR Model tender has reportedly been scrutinized and approved by the Competition Board last week and the contract was made ready to be signed by Minister Yıldırım.

It is reported that the site delivery will be made to TAV A.Ş. under the contract to be signed by the Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication Binali Yıldırım at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport in the forthcoming days and construction works will start of Airport International Lines Project.

DHMİ General Directorate has received 3 bids in the tender conducted on November 17, 2011, TAV Havalimanları A.Ş. has unexpectedly won the tender by offering a higher leasing price of Euro 610 million at the 11th tour (TEBANEWS#1536/November 21, 2011).

İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport's Domestic and International Lines Passenger Terminal was being operated by TAV A.Ş. under the contract earlier signed with DHMİ. Airport's International Lines Terminal contract expired in 2011 and TAV A.Ş. has offered 11% more operation price than its rival IC İçtaş-Fraport Joint Venture.

Minister Yıldırım, "We will see 25 million passengers at Adnan Menderes in 2020"

In the speech delivered at the signing ceremony of TOR model contract of İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, Minister Binali Yıldırım has noted that one of the 35 project promised for İzmir has been realized with the signing of this leasing contract covering the construction of new domestic lines terminal of the Airport and after completion of New Domestic Lines and International Lines Terminal, İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport will render services for 25 million passengers.

Underlining the importance of this investment as İzmir being a candidate for EXPO 2020, Minister Yıldırım said, "Whether EXPO 2020 realized or not, İzmir will continue to enlarge and to be the brand city of Turkey. These are the steps taken to this end ".

Minister Yıldırım has also noted that Public-Private Sector Partnership (PPP) was prioritized in investments pertinent to aviation since 2003, bigger investments from that of made from the budget have been realized on BOT model and PPP model without using budget resources, investments made until now reached USD 2 billion. Today, we have signed a project of Euro 1 billion, of this Euro 250 million was the investment and Euro 610 million is the leasing contract, investment to be completed in 2 years said Minister Yıldırım, İzmir will have highly advanced airport with higher capacity.

İzmir Airport's capacity to exceed Ankara Airport's

When airport construction completed, İzmir will have bigger airport than that of Ankara, said Minister Yıldırım, "İzmir now exceeds the capacity of Ankara's with this contract".

According to the specification, the contractor company will have to complete the work in 2 years, noted Minister Yıldırım, "However, İzmir already wasted many times for this reason we have to reduce the wasted time to 2 years now, first investment at İzmir Airport completed in 15 months. This is twice as big, let's give it 5 months more and finish it in 20 months".
